Gobble, Gobble, Fitness Journey Continues

Happy Thanksgiving! Who else is flabbergasted that Turkey Day is tomorrow?? My mouth waters as I envision of a table loaded with turkey, potatoes, squash, green bean casserole (not for all, I know) and pies, and is surrounded with friends and family. Much to my dismay, I'm not accompanying Mumsy, Daddy, Barbie & twins as they now travel Pennsylvania to visit with Lynne and Wade. (Insert sobbing emoji). Alas, if the Jeep were  working, Ben has to work on Friday, making it impossible for a road trip. But instead of another quiet day at home, though, I'm thrilled we are trekking to Gloucester to share the holiday with Ben's very dear friend and her family. She is a whiz in the kitchen, and I'm quite happy to partake in the fruits of her labor. I'm also thrilled that there won't be a bevy of leftovers hanging around the house! Especailly the potatoes. I make the WHOLE recipe which calling for five pounds of potatoes, a stick of butter (actually two  stic...

A Twist of Fate

Image
Yes, it's true. (Any Ghostbusters fans know what line cometh after this?? Hehe.) I am now being paid to write. The universe most definitely had a hand in this. The week after returning from vacation, I started perusing the job offerings. I replied to an ad on Craigslist for a part-time office assistant. I almost didn't send my resume, since the job was in a town about 45 minutes from me. But I thought maybe I could wow them so much I 'd get the expensive end of the pay scale, thus neutralizing the commute factor. I also thought it more likely I wouldn't be called back, since there are lots of people looking for work. But I had this feeling I should send my resume anyway, so I drafted a simple, few-sentence cover letter, attached my resume and clicked send. The next morning I received a call, which I let go to voicemail. It was the owner of the company. She said she received my resume and wanted to discuss my qualifications. I called her back later that morning and ...

Summer Wrap-Up and Fall Commences

Image
Welcome Fall! So how's everyone been the last two months? (Eeeek!) I can't believe how much time has passed since my last post. Several times I've plunked my keester in front of the computer, and each time I attempted a new post, nothing seemed to work. But it's working today! Summer flew by this year - in fact the whole   year has flown by this year. I truly can't believe that the first day of my favorite month is a mere two days away. Sheesh! The summer closed with me and the kids visiting my parents for a week. It was wonderful! My favorite pic of this trip is of Shiloh and Aisling (Haz-el-ing in Shiloh speak) that Mumsy took when we went to Enchanted Forest Water Safari -  EEEHHHH! Where the fun never stops - bomp-bomp! That day started off on a rather sour note. We left late (our fault), it poured on-and-off en route and for the first hour we were there, and  we got stuck in construction traffic (also en route). Mumsy and I were in her car with the g...

Thankful Addendum, Summer thus Far

Image
Greetings, all!  I'm quite embarrassed, ashamed and chagrin that I forgot to include someone in my Thankful  piece. I will make up for that travesty now: CHRISTI (AKA SUPER-FRIEND) How, how, how could I forget her? Especially, since according to the "Find your Facebook Perfect Match", I am her perfect match! (When she shared the results of the algorithmic computations, I said, "Yes! I'm your damsel in distress!") She was president of the MOM's club, which I joined to find friends and stave of psychosis. Even before she knew me she was saving me! She's generous and funny - even a calming voice when the thrusters of my rage rocket start firing: (I left Isaac and Shiloh there a couple of weeks ago so I could go to my writers group. Stupidly, I forgot to bring their swimsuits, but I said they could swim in their clothes and I'd bring clean ones when I picked them up. When I got there, Isaac told me he forgot to take his phone out of his po...

For Which I am Thankful!

Where were we? Oh, yes! I was extolling the wonderfulness of the signs of spring. Since then, the roller-coaster car of life has taken a nosedive, climbed back up, and did one of those sideways loops. Tis now chugging along, yet I await the next loop-dee-loo en route to my happy place. When faced with a seemingly endless all-you-can-eat buffet of trials and tribulations, it can be exceedingly difficult to see beyond the offerings right in front of you.  So I've been focusing on the positives in my life, which are numerous, and wanted to acknowledge the most important ones. MUMSY Shiloh tells me every day (not for much longer, I am aware!) "You're the best Mommy in the whole world!" I must disagree, because that mantle belongs to my mother. A shoulder to cry on, a punching bag when I needed to verbally jab-cross-jab-roundhouse about something(s) that pissed me off, and, on occasion, a money lender. This woman does it all - and has never asked for anythin...

Signs of Spring

Image
Greetings, all! Old man winter's been a cantankerous grouch and it's time for him to take a hike. This weekend most of us "sprang ahead" - that annoying, antiquated, pre-spring equinox custom of losing an hour's sleep so we have enough light at the end of the day to plow the fields. But that got me thinking about signs of spring: 1. GRILL AND CHAIRS Maybe the tropical temps tomorrow will melt the screen icicle... Not quite ready for a margarita on the arm. A mere nine days ago, both of these objects were completely encased in snow. Their reemergence is filling my head with such thoughts of green grass, garden and grilling (the three G's)! 2. BATHING SUIT CATALOG DISCLAIMER: The one bathing suit I own IS a Victoria's Secret bikini. As a company they have spectacular sales and superlative customer service, which is why I shop there. I have noticed, however, that their clothing selection has been cut dramatically! No denim, no fa...

A Few of my Favorite Things

Happy Thursday, y'all! Have you heard about the record snowfall in New England?! You did? Just checking. Yet more snow is falling from the sky as I type... Sigh... We're coming upon the end of lo this second month of the year, and I've been mulling over a few things, some new, some not, that have been cherries on the proverbial sundae that is life, and thought I'd share. (The creative numbering sequence I borrowed from the inestimable Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman) 1. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (of course!) Below are just a few pics I found from that totally awesome game! Even if you're a hater, you have to admit Super Bowl XLIX was, without a doubt, a thrilling nail-biter! It had everything a fan of football could ask for - equally matched teams, amazing plays and not one moment to relax until the fat lady sang - aka Butler's interception.   Amazing! This is what I do! Needs me an 11 jersey! Says it all. :) Have me a 12 jers...
