Hump Day Blechhhh....

Image
Don't you just love it whence a day starts out really shitty and then turns up all sunshine and roses? Wish that was how my day went... Today was an amalgam of good - crap - backhanded good. A swirly turn through all that life has to offer, if you will. After a complete night's sleep, I awoke on the right side of the bed this morning. Even though the sun was doing its annoying rising-too-early-for-yours-truly thing, at least it propelled me out of bed by 5:30 so I could accomplish stuff - cleaning, light breakfast followed by kickboxing. Isaac got on the bus, I got Shiloh to daycare and rolled into work right on time. Work has been relatively slow for me this week, so whatever is asked of me I've accomplished lickity-split - and I scour calendars in case any new lunchtime meetings pop up, yet the meeting organizers haven't properly requested. So how happy was I today, when someone who I hold in the highest regard and is supremely self-sufficient required the use of m...

Sick Day

How's everyone been? The heavens weep as I type. The last time I remember this many consecutive days of rain, I was living outside of Seattle! I grabbed about three hours of sleep Wednesday night - to awaken with the right side of my throat horribly sore, and feeling feverish with chills. I mentally mulled over my day and decided that calling in was in order. I keep excellent, organized notes so my colleagues would have no problem covering, and my phone is permanently affixed to me, so I could be reached if necessary. Since my physical ailments replaced my usual friendly, chatty disposition with that of a grumpy bitch, calling in was the right choice. Also, Isaac had an early release day from school and I could be here to meet him. Even though I felt like the floor of a taxi cab, I had high hopes of squeezing in some kickboxing, conquering the mountains of laundry, yoga, and lots of writing after dropping Shiloh off at daycare. Whence I returned home, I had an egg-and-cheese sa...

The Week's Past

Image
"Let's do the time warp agaaaaaaain!" Seriously - I can't believe over a week has passed since the last post. This one has been in the works for a few days now. How's everyone been? This week at work was quiet and short, but because of the holiday, I stayed late each day to make up the hours I lost Monday. Writing and exercising fell to the wayside as a result. I'm climbing back on the horse tomorrow.  Weather-wise today is certainly gorgeous - clear blue skies, a temperate eightyish degrees with a nice breeze. All the windows and the French doors to the patio are open. But the three days preceding this were obnoxiously too summery - over ninety and humid as all get out! I hope it's not a prelude to another summer like last year's. This little gem just popped up on my FB feed: I stumbled upon a neat social networking site www.wanatribe.com . I joined one "tribe" - writing for children - and have been welcomed with open arms by som...

For Fun

Image
Nothing magnanimous in this post - just showing off my biggest fan's talent with the camera.... He's so awesome! I hate having my picture taken most of the time - but it was fun to play it up this time. Can't wait to do it again, if he wants. (I won't let it inflate my ego.... Don't think that's possible, actually!) Next time NO flowy shirt! There were many "preggo" pics that were deleted (per my demand - and I didn't even see them) I was stunned when he sent me these, though. Did I mention he's awesome? I didn't run screaming for the hills after seeing his pics, AND he gave me a great idea for another blog post! Since I have a case of "not-accomplishing-what-I-write-down-itis", I'm not going to write down what he said. It'll be great, but it does require some time to marinade. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the photos!

Hump Day Blurb

Image
Happy Hump Day! I was "chatting" a with friend last night and they disappeared for a spell. Whence they returned, they said, "I thought you did another blog post...." Ahhh, my biggest fan! I said I'd meant to but hadn't gotten around to completing it. This is actually the third title this post has boasted. The first was - I don't remember actually - but the second was going to be a Mother's Day post that just never found footing. After I crowed on FB about needing a cast for my arm (I broke it patting myself on the back...) because the fish tacos I made were super-splendiferous, my favoritest sister responded, "I LOVE fish tacos. I can't wait for the recipe!" I then replied, "I'm going to get that out today!" That proclamation was the beginning of my undoing. Sometimes I find that when I make written declarations, the complete opposite comes to fruition. Anyone else experience this phenomenon? When I didn't take...

Working on the "Irish Cop-Out"; Double Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Cookies with Cranberries and Mascarpone

Image
How's everyone been? I've been quite busy - hence the time lag between blog posts. I actually started this post on Friday and it was supposed to be a "Week's Wrap-Up" - I'm just now getting to finish it. (With some adjustments) I've said it before - I'm not the mother I'd always envisioned myself being. An occurrence last week reinforced this fact - but it was the catalyst for a mature conversation between myself and Isaac (as mature a conversation that can be held with a eight-and-three-quarters-boy, anyway). I love to blame my "Irishness" for my lack temper-control - but I'm starting to feel more, and more that's a cop-out. Especially when dealing with my children. The first step to correcting a problem is recognition, is it not? So, I recognize and will keep working on it. Isaac's switch flipped last Wednesday afternoon. He went from his normal loving state to the Isaac Monster. Gratefully, the Isaac Monster has mellowe...

The Universe Speaks. And Hugs.

Image
Where we come from I asked someone at work not too long ago if he was the religious sort. He responded, "Spiritual." This seems to be the reigning assessment from us of the ilk who don't profess to know what is going on, but believe something  is going on. I don't believe in any organized theology, but in the power of the universe. In her book Unlimited , my fitness hero used science to sum up spirituality (albeit with a somewhat New-Agey bent). Whilst reading the following, I found myself nodding like a bobble-head on the dashboard of a moving car:      "I'm probably one of the most spiritual people you'll ever meet. Yes, I curse a lot  (sound like anyone else?) , and I'm tough as nails, but I'm also spiritual.  And although I am close to "God", science is at the root of my spirituality. Let me explain.      "I believe that everything in the universe is made up of energy and information, including you, your emotions, and your be...
